Visual Journal Monster Devotion is an eight-week generative playground for writing and image-making. Each Friday, Ariel Gore and Maureen Burdock will guide you through playful prompts designed to surprise you out of your habits and reconnect you with your creative practice.
Drawing on Ariel’s generative writing and Maureen’s visual-journal and comics approaches, you’ll write, draw, paint, and experiment in a low-pressure space. The focus is process and discovery—not polished output. No art experience is needed.
Come feed your curiosity, loosen your practice, and discover what your creative work wants next alongside two artist-writers and a small community. You may leave with new pages, new practices, and a bigger appetite for your own work.

Join Norma Balli-Borrero and Maureen Burdock for a playful online comics workshop for young artists ages 8–12!
Participants will invent an imaginative helper creature, explore how comics can show feelings through pictures, words, and movement, and create a short comic in which their character helps something shift.
No comics experience is needed—just curiosity, drawing materials, and a willingness to play.
Saturday, October 10

This is a free, no-pressure conversation for cartoonists, graphic memoirists, and other visual storytellers who are curious about coaching.
We’ll talk about your project, where you are in the process, what feels exciting or difficult right now, and what kind of support might be most useful. It’s a chance to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and see whether we’re a good fit.

Small-group class in Photoshop and InDesign
This class is for cartoonists, graphic memoirists, and illustrated-book makers who want more confidence with the digital side of their process. We’ll focus on practical uses of Photoshop and InDesign in the real context of making a graphic book: preparing artwork, organizing files, adjusting pages, assembling interiors, and building a workflow that feels clear and workable. The goal is not generic software training, but a more confident, project-based digital practice.

Comix Coven is an intimate creative space for cartoonists and visual storytellers who want steady support, rich discussion, and a sense of community around their work.
We meet twice a month to explore graphic novels, share work in progress, and nurture sustainable creative momentum through discussion, prompts, and feedback. You can join for the full year, for six months, for three months, or occasionally as a drop-in.
I know the process of making comics inside out!
I’ve published two non-fiction graphic novels (a third is on the way), several shorter comics, and I’m the author of a co-edited book and multiple essays in the field of comics scholarship. I’ve taught college writing and graphic novels. As a graphic designer, I worked in the art department of an offset printing company, where my job was to clean up files and get them ready for print. Over the years, I’ve worked with many authors as a book designer and illustrator. I continue to work as a book illustrator and editor. I know the self-publishing process and all it entails. I also help authors with agent and publisher query packages.
